Everyone is playing Internet Texas Hold’em these days. It’s on television, on the Internet and in casinos. If you’ve seen the poker explosion, you probably want to get into the action. Here’s a quick guide to the rules of Texas Hold’em.

The object of Texas Hold’em is to make your best five card poker hand using two hole cards that only you see, plus five cards in the middle of the table, called the board. Texas Hold’em is a community card game, meaning those five cards are shared by all the players, which creates a lot of interesting possibilities and situations.

Play starts when the player to the left of the dealer puts in half a bet. In games that are professionally dealt, the player who would be the dealer gets a button marked “dealer” and in fact this player is usually called “the button.” The player two to the left of the dealer puts in a full bet. These two players who put in forced bets are called “the small blind” and “the big blind” respectively. Play moves clockwise around the table starting with the player to the left of the big blind, who must either call the big blind, raise, or fold. Once the action gets back to the blinds, they have the option of folding, just calling, or raising.

Once it is determined who is still in the hand, the dealer places three cards in the middle of the table, called “the flop.” Players, starting with the small blind, now have the option to check (pass to the next player without betting or folding), bet or fold. Once a bet has been made, the remaining players can call, raise or fold. Whoever is stil in the hand now gets to see a fourth card, called “the turn” or “fourth street.” There is another round of betting, and then a fifth card, “the river” or “fifth street,” is placed on the table. Now that all players know what their final hand will be, there is a last round of betting, and whoever remains in the hand shows their cards. The best five card hand using the two hole cards and five board cards takes the pot.

Hold’em is played with three different types of betting structures. In a fixed limit game, the amount you can bet at anytime is predetermined. For example in a $3/$6 limit Hold’em game, players can bet or raise $3 before and on the flop, and $6 on the turn and river. In a no limit Texas Hold’em game, players can bet as much as they want at any time including going all-in, meaning betting all of their chips. If another player does not have enough chips to call, they can put in everything they have, but can only win the amount of the other player’s all-in bet that they matched. A pot limit game is similar to no limit, except that you can only bet up to the amount that is already in the pot.

Now you know the basics of Texas Hold’em. Mastery of the game requires a lot more than a knowledge of the rules. You’ll need study and practice and lots of it, so get started!

Learning the rules of Poker is not brain surgery. Once a player knows the ins and outs of Poker rules, the game is a real joy to play. Poker is fun for people of all ages. Poker Hands To know …

Learning the rules of Poker is not brain surgery. Once a player knows the ins and outs of Poker rules, the game is a real joy to play. Poker is fun for people of all ages.

Poker Hands
To know Poker Rules is to know your Poker hand. In a nutshell, the objective of Poker is to put together the highest five-card hand. The winner of whatever version of Poker that is played will be determined by the player who has the highest five-card hand.

In Poker, the cards are ranked as follows: Ace is the highest card, followed by the picture cards, King, Queen, Jack, and then the number cards, Ten, Nine, Eight, and so on.

Poker hands are based on the best five-cards in a player’s hand. Even if playing a game with seven-cards, like Hold’em, or Seven-Card Stud, Poker hands are always determined by the best five-cards available. Never will a sixth or seventh card come into play when determining the highest hand.

To learn the ranking order of poker hands study the rules of the game.

Betting

Betting is an important part of knowing the Poker Rules. In most games, especially Texas Hold’em, there are five basic betting options a player can make:

Check:
when a player does not want to wager they have the option to check.

Bet:
the first player to wager will determine the amount of the bet.

Call:
when a player calls, they are required to wager the amount of the bet.

Raise:
this wager is almost like two bets in one. The first part of the wager is calling the original bet. The second part of the wager is the raise.

Fold:
when a player does not want to play their hand, they fold and are out of the game.

Different Versions
There are many different versions of Poker: Texas Hold’em, Omaha, Seven-Card Stud, Draw, Three-Card, and Pai Gow, to name a few. The most popular, because of publicity and television coverage, is Texas Hold’em. All the games follow the same basic rules of Poker: try to put together the best five-card hand.

It’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with the Poker Rules of whatever version you decide to play.

Conclusion
If a player does not know the rules of the game, they really have no right being at a live table; however, most players would not mind having a novice at the table. A novice or a rookie is more likely to make a mistake, although there is such a thing as beginner’s luck. Even if a player understands Poker Rules, in the end, Poker is still a game of chance.

The flush is a great position to play from because it is a strong hand. A flush can beat any straight, trips, two pairs, one pair, and high card combination that are possible. Its only weaknesses are full houses, four of a kind, straight flush, and royal flush, however, the chances that a player will be able to make these card combinations are slim, so it is important to take advantage of the flush when it appears.

The first thing that a player should do when hitting the flush is to quickly determine if there is any way that another player could use the community cards to build a better hand. If there really isn’t a chance for building a better hand with the flop the player should then take into consideration the amount of chips they have. If they have a short stack they may want to take this opportunity to go all in and double up their chips. If they have a big stack they may use the flush to force a short stack into an all in situation so that they can be eliminated from the tournament.

If the flush is not completed on the flop the player may want to limp into the flop betting round, just in case the cards they need aren’t revealed on the turn or river. If they are low on chips they should also take into consideration the strength of their hand if the cards aren’t there. They should have another hand possible before betting further, at least a pair, preferably top pair. If their hand is worthless they probably shouldn’t take the risk. If they do have a decent hand even without the flush draw, they should make a big move at the flop if there are still a lot of players left in the hand. This will help to eliminate other players who may be able to draw a stronger hand on the turn and river, and it will increase the amount of chips invested by the players who stay in the hand. Either way a strong move will help the final position of the player with the possible flush draw.

If the cards for a flush are revealed on the flop a player with a less than perfect hand and position may want to take the opportunity to bluff their way to claiming the pot. If the early position players have not made a move for the pot, a player in late position may want to make a strong move to create the illusion that they have the flush, even though they don’t have those cards. This move will probably get most of the other players to fold.

Poker has become popular worldwide with all ages and all sections of the society playing it. Poker is simple to understand but requires both luck and skill. You have to know the basics and points of poker etiquettes to play the game well.

Poker has become world famous due to the televised championships and celebrity poker game shows. Many variations on the original poker game have developed over the years.
Following are some variations of poker.

1) Texas Hold’em - a very popular version.

2) Omaha Hold’em - A community card game similar to Texas Hold’em. In this variation the Omaha players get four personal cards and share five community cards.

3) Pineapple Hold’em - also known as Crazy Pineapple. It is halfway between Texas Hold’em and Omaha.

4) Draw Poker - is the most basic of all poker games with ‘Five Card Draw’ being very popular.

5) Stud Poker - has many variations. The most popular version played in casinos is the ‘Seven Card Stud’.

6) Badugi - is a four card lowball/triple draw variant where the goal is to end up with four cards of different suits and different ranks.

7) Lowball - is a five card draw where the lowest hand wins (straights or flushes not counting).

8) Razz - is a Seven Card Stud lowball.

The basic hands in the various poker games are about the same, with minor variations. The basic poker hands range from high/low card to a royal flush. Low cards are any 5 combination of Ace to 7 or 8 (with no pair(s) or flush), high card is the player that has the highest card with Ace being the highest.

There are many different types of poker and each has specific rules. The basic rules of any poker game start with either ante or two/five cards dealt to each player. The object of most poker games is to get the highest or lowest hand possible.

In high/low poker games, the general poker rule is the person with the highest and the lowest hand split the pot. In normal poker games, the player with the highest cards wins the pot. Whether you be playing with community cards or exchanging cards with dealer, most poker games allows players to bet, call, check, fold, or raise each round.

To play poker online you have to have a computer and an Internet connection. You then need to download an online poker client program from one of the online poker rooms, sign-up, transfer your money to your newly created account (only if you are playing for real money) and start playing.

Online poker was launched in 1998 and since then player traffic in online poker rooms has increased more than twenty times with an annual turnover of more than one billion dollars, and still growing.

Online poker is easily accessible as it is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can find thousands of players to play against from all over the world who play for real money. It is like sitting in a casino at your own home and playing.
Online poker moves much faster than offline poker. Poker needs as much luck as skill.

A frequently asked question is- Is online poker legal?
For a US citizen, it is not clear whether or not playing online poker is legal. Although it is not legal to create an online gaming company in the United States, no individual has been charged for playing poker online. Since establishing online gambling companies is illegal in US, all poker rooms operate outside the United States territory. For non-US residents, there is no such problem as legal issues when start playing online poker, since it is not prohibited to gamble online in most of the European countries.

Welcome to the world of possibility! Whether you are a beginning poker player, or a poker player beginning to play online, the Internet is the place to turn your poker skills into a craft. What many people don’t realize is that poker is a game of skill. Most individuals who don’t play poker or have never seen a game of poker played believe poker to be a gamble. If this were the case, then why exactly do the same players win on a consistent basis? Why would a man by the name of Doyle Brunson own 10 bracelets from the World Series of Poker, and several million dollars; luck? I think we all know better. It has little to do with luck! The game of poker is not played at the craps table, however it is played online, and for that very reason, you can become a better poker player.

The best poker players in the world have one thing going for them that many poker players with amazing potential haven’t realized. The more poker you play the better player you can become. Consider the poker world 10 years ago. Where did people play poker? If you wanted to be a poker pro, you needed access to Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Reno, or some other casino town where you could face the best poker competition in the world. If you lived in say, Missouri, you might hop on a river boat in St. Louis, but who are you competing against; students from Washington University? As fun as it might be to take a drunken frat brothers’ money, to improve your skill you need to play against the best. So congratulations, the opportunity of playing poker online is going to make you a better poker player if you choose for it to happen.

The poker education is free and you can learn from the best. Consider the aforementioned Doyle Brunson’s Doyle’s Room (www.doylesroom.com). You can get the best tips from one of poker’s best! And not only that, you can learn the games at the very same site playing for free, and once you become comfortable with your skill, you can hunt down the man himself and see how you fair! The only other way you can play against such poker talent is at a WSOP event, and unless you are starting your online career for your WSOP tournament berth, the Internet is your outlet to the world’s best poker competition.

Now that we’ve covered some logistics and potential of the online poker world, consider checking out one of the most useful sites to any beginning online player: PokerListings (www.pokerlistings.com). You will find everything you probably want to know in regards to getting started online. You will find incredibly detailed site reviews, breakdowns and analysis for the top online poker sites. If you want a new site with a smaller poker community, you’ll find it. If you are an experienced poker player and want to use play internet texas holdem poker as your vehicle to the professional ranks, then check out sites such as Poker Stars (www.pokerstars.com), Hollywood Poker (hollywoodpoker.com) and Poker Room (www.pokerroom.com).

Some of the world’s best sites are directly linked from PokerListings, and you’ll find that the links will offer some lucrative sign up bonuses. Who complains about free money? And if you have no desire to play for money, these same top sites will allow you to get in the action for free with the hope that when you decide to play for the cash, you’ll stay loyal!

Playing poker online is great fun, and you can literally play several games at once. You can get in the action at multiple tables and even in multiple tournaments. And if your computer can handle it, you can stay in action at multiple poker rooms. Quite literally, you can play more poker in one evening than you would in an entire month sitting around the kitchen table! So use PokerListings as the wonderful online tool that it is, and get yourself into your first bit of online poker action!
